Choosing The Right Arborist To Treat Your Trees

When you take your pet to the vet, you ensure that you are taking them to the right vet for their needs.  You would research the vet and check that they are the right person for the job.  The same should be done for your trees as finding the right arborist is identical to finding the right vet.  The right arborist will be able to diagnose and heal your trees like a vet diagnoses and heals your pet. To choose the right arborist, there are a number of factors that you need to consider.

The Arborists Credentials

Training in arboriculture can be gained in a number of ways.  There are some universities that offer degrees in this, but most arborists will learn through on-the-job experience.  They will supplement this experience with educational classes.  Before you hire an arborist, you need to know how they acquired their knowledge.

One of the best ways to determine whether or not you are working with a qualified arborist is to see if they are certified.  A certified arborist will need to get a certification from a professional association.  It is recommended that you look for an arborist that is certified by the National Arborists Association or the International Society of Arboriculture.  These are respected associations which require certified members to pass examinations, obtain a license and commit to continued education.

The Appearance Of Their Equipment

While the arborist should be professional and have the right appearance, you need to take a look at their equipment.  The equipment that they use should always be in good condition.  Poorly maintained tools will cause additional damage to your trees and this could make it sick or kill the tree.  You should also find out what equipment exactly they are going to be using.  Reputable arborists will generally not use spikes to climb trees because this causes damage which could lead to infections.

Their Written Estimates

When you look for the right arborist, you need to consider the costs.  This is why you need to get written estimates from at least 3 arborists before you make a decision.  Once you have the estimates, you should not look for the lowest price and choose based on this.  Doing this can lead to problems as the cheapest arborist may not be the right one.

The written estimate should detail how each of the arborists is going to approach the job that you have.  If one arborist seems to be doing more than others, you should question them about this.  These extras could be a way to increase the price when you do not actually need the service.  However, if there is one arborist who does not seem to be offering all the options that the others are, you should reconsider using them as they are not committed to completing the entire job.

Choosing the right arborist for your trees is important because they are responsible for the health of these plants.  The wrong arborist could damage your tree or cause an infection which will make the tree sick.
